USB Image Tool creates disk image files in a matter of minutes and can save you a lot of headaches if one of your removable storage devices fails. If you tend to store a lot of important data on USB flash drives, then keeping all your data safe should be a priority. When it comes to performance, the program doesn’t lack speed, either, as it took around seven minutes to create a backup image file of 7.55GB on our USB flash drive. You can add the disk image files to a favorites list and enable the program to suggest a name for your backup image file based on a preset tag, among other options. Most of the program’s features are assigned a well-labeled button so you don’t have to go searching for features if you’re new to creating disk images. The program lets you create backups and scans your current images for errors with just a touch of a button. It tells you the path, location, name, and number of each mounted device in an easy-to-read menu. In addition to letting you create raw or compressed image files of your USB flash drives, USB Image Tool lets you create an image file of any MP3 player mounted as a USB drive. The program is portable so there is no need for installation. It has a welcoming feel for beginners while still doing the job for advanced users. This redundancy means that you can recover the data, even in the event of a drive failure.USB Image Tool boils down the process of creating and restoring disk images of USB flash drives to a few easy steps. You can automatically back up important files and folders to the drive periodically, but for ultimate data protection, RAID drives incorporate drive redundancy into their architecture. You can use a desktop external hard drive for data backup. Standard desktop external hard drives have a speed of 7,200 revolutions per minute (RPM) but some models can offer speeds as high as 15,000RPM. Drive speed is important in these cases because it minimizes the loading time and waiting times. Buyers can use some external hard drives with games consoles to expand their memory without having to upgrade to a new system or rely on cloud storage. You can also use one to store software, including games and DLC packs. You can use a portable hard drive for your PC to store personal and professional files. Expand Game Storage with Desktop External Hard Drives 2.5in models, commonly used as laptop drives because of their portability, are the smallest and offer the greatest convenience. These will fit in a shirt pocket and are easier to carry. However, if you need to regularly access data on a portable drive, because you're a creative professional that carries photos or videos to clients, for example, portable hard drives for Mac and PC exist that strip away unnecessary weight and casing. Most hard drives, except those with the largest capacity and internal hard drives with desktop mounts, tend to be small and light enough to carry in a laptop bag or pocket. Go Mobile with a Portable Hard Drive for Mac and PC Thunderbolt is common in Mac hard drives and also an increasing number of PCs. However, compatibility is what matters most, so ensure that the drive you choose is compatible with the ports on your desktop. This means that you can store and retrieve data from the drive quicker. Desktop external hard drives with Thunderbolt connectivity offer a throughput speed of up to 40Gbps, double that of USB 3.2's 20Gbps. Where Thunderbolt connections are available, you should consider choosing this interface over USB or SATA. Enjoy Fast Transfer Speeds with Thunderbolt Compatibility SATA and SAS drives are other common connection types. Thunderbolt connectivity is standard in most Macs as well as some high-end PCs, offering fast transfer rates, while USB 3 is another popular interface standard. Ensure compatibility when you buy a portable hard drive for Mac and PC by choosing one with a compatible interface. The programs installer files are commonly found as OBD2.EXE or FACTORY.exe etc. The size of the latest downloadable setup file is 673 KB. This free software is an intellectual property of Alex C. The most popular versions among OBD II Scan Tool users are 1.6 and 1.0. RAID enabled external hard drives for PC provide these functions while introducing redundancy so the drive can be rebuilt and data recovered, even in the event of a disk failure. Download OBD II Scan Tool 1.69 from our software library for free. You can transport smaller models in your pocket or bag, but some larger devices come with stands and other features that make them suitable as a permanent fixture on your desk. Desktop external hard drives enable you to expand existing storage, incorporate redundancy into your data storage setup and can even provide faster transfer speeds than an existing internal disk. That’s a huge disparity from just a geometrical object like that in uncurved space, which would appear to be about the size of your fist held at arms length.Īs you start to come closer and closer to ISCO - or the innermost stable circular orbit - which is 150% the radius of the event horizon, you notice that the front-view from your spaceship becomes entirely black. Andrew Hamilton / JILA / University of ColoradoĬonversely, the apparent area of the black hole appears to grow and grow dramatically by time you’re just a few (maybe 10) Schwarzschild radii away from it, the black hole has grown to such an apparent size that it blocks off nearly the entire front view of your spaceship. When you fall into a black hole or simply get very close to the event horizon, its size and scale. If you approached it, by time the event horizon should be the size of the full Moon on the sky, it’s actually more than four times as large as that! The reason, of course, is that spacetime curves more and more severely as you get close to the black hole, and so the “lines-of-light” that you can see from the stars in the Universe that surround you are bent disastrously out of shape. Still, compared to the naive radius you compute in relativity, it will actually appear 150% larger, due to the way space is curved. Unlike all the other objects you’re used to, where they appear to get visually larger in proportion to the distance you are away from them, this black hole appears to grow much more quickly than you were expecting, thanks to the incredible curvature of space.įrom our perspective on Earth, the black hole in the galactic center will appear tiny, with its radius measured in micro-arc-seconds. Ute Kraus, Physics education group Kraus, Universitat Hildesheim a black hole will be bent around it, leaving a large disk of darkness, corresponding to the black hole's event horizon. Owing to the power of General Relativity to stretch and distort space, the light coming from behind. (Hence the “black” in the moniker “black holes.”) But if you looked with your eyes, instead of a gas cloud, star or neutron star, there would be a completely black sphere in the center, from which no light will be visible. Spacetime may be curved, but all you can tell at your distant location is that it’s due to the presence of a mass, not what the properties or distributions of that mass are. In fact, when you’re very far away from a black hole, its gravity is indistinguishable from any other mass, whether it’s a neutron star, a regular star, or just a diffuse cloud of gas. When you’re very far away from a black hole, the fabric of space is less curved. While normal masses curve this spacetime significantly, only black holes will actually curve it an infinite amount at the point(s) where a singularity exists. general relativity, we're up to the challenge. The fabric of the Universe, spacetime, is a tricky concept to understand. Most players tend to stick to using the same scale patterns regardless of tuning, so we may deduce the tuning is B standard, and looking at the only one or two live performances we know that for certain. Then if we listen close we will find that most of the songs - if not all - are in fact in B and E minor scales, or harmonic minor (Tides of oneiric darkness for example - the opening riff is B harmonic minor, Brearth and levitation - E minor I guess). Playing the song in D# would be difficult due to fingering - it’s not just a power chord (5th) but two notes in an octave moving up and down, meaning that it would be inpractical to use D#. We now know we are not in E standard territory. However Consummation, another track from the same album, has the lowest note of D#. Technically, it is playable in E standard. If there are no videos from concerts, then we have to do it the hard way - compare the material (I would suggest listening to the whole album thoroughly) and look for the lowest note played.Įxample - my last cover, Akhlys’s Breath and Levitation, has the lowest note of F# - the same as 2nd fret on E string in standard tuning. Watching live gigs of the band you are transcribing is very useful in this regard, as it gives you a visual cue (it’s also useful in transcribing in general - to an extent, more on that later). The first thing you want to do, is to find out the tuning. Sorry, I forgot to mention the most important thing (for me).Īs it happened, I have been learning songs that there are no tabs whatsoever for - not even incorrect ones (see my Akhlys related posts for further info). Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, and keep moving forward. It seems like the common denominator for people who get good is trial and error, and lots of practice with transcribing, either through writing notation or playing the instrument directly (probably a bit of both). So I’m sure my process is not the most typical one for players who are copping licks off records since records became a thing. You might find the auto-harmonic analysis useful to provide hints to the chord progression - but it’s not 100% accurate and sometimes chord changes are subjective. I’ve used Capo in the past, for analyzing a recording and looping/slowing down sections - but I don’t find as much of a need for it now. I also like having the other aural guideposts like the bass and drums to anchor what the guitar part is doing harmonically and rhythmically. I just use the recorded mix, it’s very rare that a studio recording has a guitar part that is unclear to transcribe. I like that the workspace and the finished product are the same thing basically, and it has 95% of the features I need in transcribing guitar techniques and syncing to audio/video recording. Sometimes I’m using visual feedback from the video performance - but that’s mostly for confirming my best estimate about positioning and certain playing techniques.Īs far as tools I’m using, mostly just Soundslice these days. I’m just relying on aural feedback from the notation software. I almost never have an instrument in hand when transcribing. I listen to the recording a lot, loop the tricky parts, and picture how I would be playing it if I were Yngwie or something. My process for transcribing is mostly based on listening and visualization. But typically, if it feels impossible, it’s probably not correct. I know there are some that go out of their way to challenge themselves. I have to constantly remind myself that for the most part, the greats play things that feel ‘natural’ to them. You could have the pitches all correct, but if you don’t have the notes in the proper fret location you could very well be wasting your time trying to play something that’s nearly unplayable. If you consider the groundbreaking discoveries of CtC, where notes are fretted are critical because it jives with the picking escape plan the guitarist is using. Regarding doing it without a guitar, I’d say it depends on your goal. I’m sure there are way better tools now, but something like that will help in identifying pitches. It also had a crappy eq feature that would roll off the bass, which helped when transcribing solos. This was great for figuring rhythm guitars as they are typically panned hard right and left. I had a rather crude setup, but I did have a unit that allowed removing of the center channel. Doing things a lot tends to make people good at it, so I think I was at least “proficient” by the end of it. The method I used was having people bring in anything they liked and I’d show them how to play it. I’m not at the level of any of those 3 but I’ve done tons of transcribing as I used to be a guitar teacher full time for a little over 10 years. Don’t forget about he’s done some amazing work too. I know and the mighty are members here.Īwesome transcribers. PayPal also charges a 1% fee for instant withdrawals to your bank account or card. If you’re planning on sending or receiving money internationally, fees are even steeper. Not only does it charge a 2.9% fee for money sent from a debit or credit card, but it also charges an extra 30 cents on top of that. However, if you choose not to, PayPal will be one of the most expensive services for you. Now, we would highly recommend connecting it to your bank account anyway, as it makes things a lot easier if you happen to lose your debit or credit card or when you get a new one. Out of the five services, PayPal is the most expensive, if you don’t want to connect the service to your bank account (or for sending or receiving international payments). What PayPal has going against it, however, isn’t related to its ease of use. There are no fees to send or receive money from friends and family in the U.S - but if you’re sending or receiving payments from another country, fees apply. If you have your friend’s link, simply follow the link and enter how much you want to pay them. The initiative has made sending money even easier. Simply open up your PayPal account, press the “send money” button, and follow the instructions - it only takes a few seconds to send money. PayPal’s interface is extremely easy to use, largely thanks to a major redesign. PayPal has long been the go-to for online shopping, and the fact that it can be used to transfer money between friends is simply a bonus. Fitbit Versa 3Īs previously mentioned, PayPal is perhaps the best known of these services - though that has been changing in recent years. According to Charles Potts, Chief Innovation Officer at the Independent Community Bankers of America, “Many consumers need a banker, not just a bank-and the relationship banking model is at the heart of community banking.”ġThere’s more data on consumers’ checking account relationships not included here. The uptick in primary customer market share for community banks reflects a growing need among some consumers to have the personal touch. PayPal and Square picked up the slack-and more-with 8% of Gen Zers now calling PayPal their primary checking account provider, and 4% applying that label to Cash App. But its primary status among Gen Zers has slipped since 2020-from 6.5% in October 2020 to 4.6% in January 2022. Chime is a strong neobank among Millennials, and is growing its primary customer share among Gen Xers. Gen Z is flocking to PayPal and Cash App.Those accounts stay open, but are increasingly used for specific purposes-like making expenses for specific items or sending money to other people. As consumers open additional accounts-increasingly with digital banks-they consider their accounts from traditional banks to be their secondary and third accounts. Checking account usage is becoming specialized.CashApp, for example, provides crypto and tax prep capabilities built into the service-features typically not found in the traditional checking account.ĭigital bank checking account mashups Source: Alex Johnson, Fintech Takes newsletter It’s inaccurate to call what the digital providers offer “checking accounts.” They’re more like mashups from what have traditionally been separate accounts. Consumers are looking for a different kind of account.More Gen Zers and Millennials call a digital bank their primary checking account provider than those that consider a community bank or a credit union to be their primary checking account provider -combined. Digital banks aren’t the “challenger” banks, anymore. What’s the Cornerstone data on primary checking account status telling the industry? Someone may make a lot of mobile check deposits into one of their checking accounts and use that bank’s debit card frequently, but the fact that they use another bank’s personal financial management tools more frequently might make them feel like that bank is their primary checking account provider. With many consumers having multiple checking accounts (a third of Gen Zers and Gen Xers, and 40% of Millennials, have two or more checking accounts), multiple payment accounts, multiple investment accounts, and using various tools to help them manage all their accounts and relationships, the idea of a “primary financial institution” has become outdated.ģ) Determining primary status from just the data misses the emotional aspect of the relationship.
