I’d have to have either to sync to both iCloud and a custom solution (unwieldy, poor UX and network traffic, and otherwise gross), or not load existing data at all (completely negating the benefit of having such a web app). Similarly, if I were to build a web app version of Todolicious (which I was planning on), I could not get access to that data within iCloud at all. But if I back Todolicious with iCloud, I have no way of speaking between my server and iCloud (and I’d still need a server of some kind to send the notifications, after all). With the sync server I was building, this was fairly trivial wait for the user’s list to change, and send a signal to push the count everywhere. When you tap a To Do to mark it as done, suddenly all your devices would show the correct number on the icon. In my To Do list app, Todolicious, one thing I would love to be able to do is to push badges to your iPhone and Mac showing the number of To Dos you have left. Here’s some examples of what I’m talking about. If you sync data through iCloud, And, you will never be able to have a server component that can do things with your data all the time. You will never be able to port it to Android, WebOS, Windows Phone, or the web (mobile or desktop). If you build an application targeting iCloud, you can only ever put it on two platforms – Mac and iOS. This has a few interesting practical repercussions. So the only way for developers to move their data through this system is through a pre-compiled bundle that gets referenced within an application. Under the hood, they are obviously talking to the network and doing the business of syncing data, but that networking layer is not exposed or documented, and would have to be reverse-engineered in order to understand and use. Right now, the only way to access it is through Objective-C APIs embedded into iOS and Mac OS X. This is inherently a good thing, and it will open avenues for many new types of apps. ICloud looks like it will be an incredible technology for moving app data between devices. The vet tech comes out and tells me she’s doing what she can, I scream, I beg them to save him. I run to the back and open a door, I see him on the table and her trying to revive him. I scream, I cry, she leaves and said something about CPR. Because about 10-20 minutes later the vet comes and tells me Alex has arrested. I’ve questioned and went over 1000 times or more in my head if I did the right thing. They took him back to let him rest and I thought he could use it so I went to the waiting room. I told them about how sweet of a bun he was, how he loved to get under the recliner and thought it was a game, how he just got a scooby doo chair that made him feel like a king. I went back to see him and he was laying on the table, groggy from the sedation. They did the procedure and the vet comes out and says they got a good amount of gas out and he pooped one pellet, I was hopeful. I remember holding him and putting my head on his and thinking “I hope this isn’t the last time I get to hold him, I have to remember this moment.” And it was the last time I held him alive. I sat on the floor and held him for a couple minutes before they took him to do the procedure. I agree to this because it was a last resort, my baby wasn’t eating or using the bathroom. At this point we’re doing almost everything, there’s one other thing they can do.Ī procedure where they sedate him and go in his stomach with a tube and release the gas (which he still had not passed) We get there about 4:10 and he was in a small room they have for rabbits and it was really warm trying to raise his temp. I woke my mother and we went there straight away. I called at 4am and they tell me his temperature had dropped (96ish) and were planning on starting syringe feeding at 6am if there were no improvements ($120) I slept absolutely none, and called to check on him ever 1-2 hours. We left him there but got a hotel 5 minutes away. They started an IV drip to hydrate him and hopefully get things moving, there was also pain medication in the drip. We stayed for a while and they gave him pain meds, he became very sleepy after this, this is the last picture I have of him alive, he was sleeping in my arms They wanted to hospitalize him for 24 hours but I didn’t want to leave my baby. His temperature was Also a little low, running 99ish and rabbits should run over 100 And the bloodwork showed his potassium and proteins were off. They took an x-Ray and did some bloodwork and found he had a big gas bubble in his tummy. We got him to the emergency vet (over an hour away) at around 8:30 PM. I drove home late Saturday august 24th because he wasn’t doing well (my mom took care of him while I’m at school but I FaceTimed him every single day)Īlex wasn’t eating or pooping, this has happened before but we can usually get him out of it by using pear juice, baby gas drops, tummy massages, critical care and other things. But npm is a package manager! It shouldn’t make you manage packages, that’s its job! There are a handful of places in npm where v6 and earlier versions sort of throw up their hands and make you fix stuff by yourself. We’ve gone through the entire project from the data management to the presentation layers, stripping output that doesn’t provide worthwhile information. Or, in other words “make npm yell at you less”. Npm v7 is based on a handful of technical and user experience principles, and each post in this series will tie back to one or more of these in some way. So, instead, this is the first post, with more to come, where I take you all through some of the major changes coming in npm v7, the thinking and motivation behind them, and how they might affect you and your work. This post started as a brief update on what we’ve been doing, intended to go live along with the talk, but it got long. The Q&A session was awesome, and it was clear that a lot of you are excited for this update to the npm CLI, and have a lot of questions that unfortunately couldn’t be adequately answered in such a short time. Yesterday, Edward Thomson presented a demo of a few of the features coming in npm v7 at GitHub Satellite. We’re overdue for a status update on npm v7.ĭespite some massive distracting changes (some unfortunate, some very fortunate), development work has been proceeding steadily. Quite a lot has happened in npm since our last update way back in 2019. Updates from the npm team are now published on the This post is half finished so I never managed to get a SIP bypass PoC working. Jaron already did the hard work, he found that the Final Cut Pro Video Formats package has .heritable. In this post we’ll be using GPG Suite and Apple’s Pro Video Formats 2.1 as our target installer packages. It’s still worth writing about though because it is wonderfully simple and gets us r00t as well as a System Integrity Protection (SIP) bypass. In June 2019 at Objective by the Sea v2.0 (OBTS), Jaron Bradley dropped CVE-2019-8561. ( N.B This is a half finished post that I’m publishing to share the knowledge and get it out of my drafts) But it does sap my interest in playing at all, as does the overall size of this two-book edition. 6e), is actually a problem in play until I play the game. I won’t know if a sixfold increase in pages devoted to core rules (7e vs. There’s more to do, more special cases are spelled out, there are more examples, and in the end, there are more numbers on the character sheet.ĭifferent, I was interested in more, not so much. Blergh.Ĭomparing 7e to both 4e and 6e, the mechanical complexity hasn’t changed dramatically. 12 if I throw in a bonus page from the Sanity section (like I did with 4e). This is a game famous for having many editions with no substantial mechanical changes in 30 years, after all. Usually, they’ve added stuff: a full Lovecraft tale, more monsters, resources that used to be part of the Companions, etc. But I’ve never cracked open any 1st-6th edition CoC rulebook and thought, “Boy, they’ve added a bunch of rules!” I do have a copy of 6th edition I can get to, though.Ħe is 320 pages, compared to 4e’s 192, so there’s been an increase in page count. I’d love to compare every edition, really, but all but a couple of my copies of the core rules are in storage. Maybe the Girthening of Cthulhu happened in 5th or 6th edition, and I’ve just forgotten about it? 4th and 7th have two full editions in between, plus several “.X” editions. There’s a stray page in the Sanity section I’d like, too, so let’s call it 9 pages. It’s really 7 pages, plus a paragraph on the 8th page. In 4th, I wouldn’t print a damned thing, because in 4e those same rules - core mechanics and combat - fit into 8 pages, and that’s being generous. I don’t need chase rules unless we’re having one. Kelvin chalks up 130 pages of “actual game mechanics.” If I were printing out pages from the PDF for a condensed edition in the vein of DCC, though, I’d do pp.82-99 (core mechanics) and pp.102-129 (combat). As it notes on the back cover, though, you do also need a copy of the Investigator Handbook, which isn’t just a retreading of the same stuff minus the monsters and spells. 7th edition is split into two rulebooks, but the Keeper Rulebook contains the core rules. I wanted to see if I was just getting off on the wrong foot with 7e, so I ran a quick comparison: core rules in another edition vs. Bad first impressions don’t always stick, as I saw over the course of two tremulus campaigns.Īt this point, I’m still giving 7e the benefit of the doubt, but it’s starting to feel like I’m convincing myself to do that. Like, combat’s not all that complicated, but some people learn visually so let’s have a flowchart? Maybe! I hope so. Maybe it’s a newbie/veteran thing again, though. I almost closed the book and put it back on the shelf when I saw that. In that same vein, opinions will differ on whether a combat flowchart is a bug or a feature. But a first-time GM might enjoy it, and some folks might find the list format useful as opposed to wasteful.īut the simple fact that resolving a chase might make use of 16 pages of rules is a huge turn-off for me. That’s a waste of space for me a paragraph with an example or two would have done the job. Half a page is given over to examples of hazards in foot and car chases, things like “Cyclists in the road,” in list format. Sometimes that feels overdone, but it’s hard to judge without playing the game. If a mechanic involves multiple steps, there’s an example for each step, and then an overall example pulling things together. Sixteen pages!Ī portion of those 16 pages are devoted to providing examples, something 7th edition is splendid about. 16 pages of chase rulesĪ post Kelvin Green made yesterday, The Stars Are Right(ish), gave me pause: He mentions that there are 16 pages of rules for car and foot chases in 7th edition. For example, I can condense the DCC RPG - nearly 500 pages - into just 18 pages of rules I need to actually run the game. But not all lengthy rulebooks are created equal. But is it usefully huge, or annoyingly huge? I’ve still got Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition on the brain, and it’s really fucking huge - particularly compared to earlier editions. Lately, when I read a new game (or assess one before buying it), I find myself asking this question: “ How much of this do I need to run the game?” Hopefully, the above information has clarified things for you. Your basic red may be darker and more saturated than my basic red. You imagine it with a particular hue and intensity – this is a reflection of your life experience. Remember everyone sees colours in their own unique way. Finally, it helps your images convey the right message. Doing so helps you to understand the potential recipient, and avoid mistakes when picking up the colour palette. It is important to appreciate how the meaning of colours can vary in different cultures and for different potential audiences. Colours are essentially disorganized and non-universal semantic codes. Members of different cultural groups will interpret them in their own – and sometimes even opposite – way. For illustrators and product designers, it is important to know what the challenges are, to enable you to achieve the best results and effectively communicate your message to your audience.Ĭolours have a variety of references in Western culture. Get it wrong, and you might deliver a message that is inconsistent with your intentions. When choosing the colours for your brand, the ones that will represent you, your business, and the message you want to send, it is important to make the right choices. The story doesn’t end with these basic connections and meanings though there is still a lot more to think about. We associate the colour red with danger, green with peace and nature, blue with medicine, and black depicts darkness. Colour itself is just an action and an interaction registered in our minds. It’s a fact that the way we perceive colours, is based on our cultural code, society, knowledge, and the environment we grew up in. It influences advertisements, storytelling, illustrations, and all other aspects of visual communication. Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my course.Colour is one of the most powerful elements in visual storytelling. While it lacks a considerable amount of the more advanced options, users of 123 Sculpt will likely find this a simple transition and more than capable substitute. this program is an excellent introduction into the world of digital sculpting. Sculptris – From Pixologic, the developers of Zbrush.Although 123 Sculpt was considerably basic when compared to the alternatives, it did have its place within the package. Rather than working with points (vertices), edges and faces, you are given a ball of digital clay and the tools to mold it. Sculpting has garnered a lot of attention in the past several years, especially when creating organic models. Despite the rather intense learning curve which makes it difficult to get started, you will find few limitations in terms of what can be created. Not nearly as simple as the aforementioned CAD oriented applications, but it is capable of much more. It is one of the original free CAD applications and has no shortage of guides and tutorials to get started. Fusion 360 (CAD) – Geared more heavily towards industry professionals, this is a fully functional CAD application powered by the Autodesk Cloud. With the capabilities to create small nick-knacks all the way up to functional prototypes, this is an excellent solution for consideration. It is extremely simple to get started and targets a broad demographic, ranging anywhere from kids to hobbyist. Tinkercad (CAD) – Tinkercad is the option that most closely resembles Autodesk 123D.
